Local Roots and Delivery Days

Kevin Lee took a trip down memory lane, reflecting on his history in the South Delta region near Tawasin and his time attending South Delta Senior Secondary. He shared a humorous anecdote about his days as a newspaper delivery boy for The Optimist, jokingly claiming that he was the one who truly made the business happen by ensuring the papers reached their destinations. Lee also highlighted the distinction between The Optimist, which served as the actual town newspaper, and The Islander. The latter was a more unique project filled with fake articles designed as clever excuses to feature advertisements for local businesses to entice readers. His work life also involved some unique downtime; he described a small tin garden shed wedged underneath a ramp overpass where he would spend about 90 minutes at a time between ferry sailings, surrounded by stacks of newspapers, simply killing time until the next ferry was ready to depart.

Comic Shop Bass Lessons

Beyond his work in the community, Lee shared some hilarious details about his musical journey. He revealed that he once took bass lessons in a small back room of a comic shop in the neighboring town of Ladner. While he had originally asked his instructor to teach him Primus songs, the long-haired "stoner" who taught him ended up starting him off with "Come As You Are."
