The Town Show

Person

Lili Beaudoin

Roots in the BC Interior

Lili calls the rugged beauty of Armstrong, British Columbia, her home. Situated "smack dab in the middle" of the province, about an hour's drive from Kelowna, her residence is a scenic, ranch-style property nestled among mountains and "blue hills." The expansive area features several cabins, offering a peaceful, rural lifestyle in the heart of the interior.

Local Lore and Childhood Memories

Lili’s history is woven into the fabric of the area, from her time at the Caravan theater—where she took the initiative to print and distribute her own newspaper—to her memories of Queensboro. She fondly recalls a kind shopkeeper who once let her "pay" for items with Monopoly money. She also keeps a watchful eye on local icons, like Barb of the City Center Laundromat, who is famous for her signature look of bright pink clothing and heavy eyeshadow. Her own personal lore is just as colorful. As a child in Armstrong, she was famously "jumped in" by older kids who claimed to be witches; they forced her to drink a bowl of water with grass in it during a midnight ceremony. Lili maintains that she is still a witch today, as the "saving" from that initiation is still in effect.

A Circus Pedigree

Lili Beaudoin carries a deep-rooted theater circus legacy in her blood. Her parents first met as tango partners at the National Circus School in Montreal, establishing a family dynamic that was uniquely bilingual from the start: her mother spoke only French while her father spoke only English. This heritage even shaped her childhood geography, as her family affectionately dubbed New Westminster 'Clown Town.' While she is a fixture of the local scene, she remains a dedicated performer, active in Vancouver Theater and taking to the stage in Toronto every summer to portray Juliet in 'Shakespeare in the Park.'

Life on the Road

Lili’s upbringing was defined by a nomadic, hippie-inspired lifestyle that saw her moving frequently between Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto. The family was known for packing up a van to travel with three girls, a dog, a cat, and a love bird named Zazu. Zazu was a beloved companion who performed a signature party trick of sitting on people's fingers to clean their teeth with his beak. Despite the constant movement, one of Lili's most vivid memories is the family's summer tradition of staying at a caravan farm in the middle of British Columbia. This rustic 'paradise' featured goats, chickens, and a total lack of flushing toilets, where the only way to bathe was via an outdoor shower.
